India is a mobile-first country. Over 80% of all internet usage in India happens on smartphones. If your website doesn't look perfect on mobile, you're invisible to the vast majority of your potential customers. Here's why this matters and what to do about it.
Over 80% of Indian internet users access the web on smartphones
Mobile-first doesn't just mean "the website works on phone." It means the website is designed for mobile first, and then adapted for desktop. Text is large enough to read without zooming. Buttons are big enough to tap with a thumb. Forms are easy to fill on a small screen. Images load fast on mobile data.
Since 2023, Google uses the mobile version of your website to determine your search rankings. This means if your mobile website is poor quality, your Google rankings suffer — even if your desktop version is excellent. Mobile experience is now the primary signal Google uses.
Your website must look and work perfectly on both mobile and desktop
Large, readable text (minimum 16px). Buttons and links with enough spacing so they're easy to tap. No horizontal scrolling. Fast loading on 4G networks. Simple navigation with a hamburger menu. Click-to-call phone buttons. Easy-to-fill contact forms.
